Mumbai Dabbawalla's (Supply Chain & Logistics)
A Guest lecture on ‘Supply Chain Management’ was conducted at the SBPIM on 2/2/2011. The ‘Nutan Mumbai Tiffin Box Suppliers Association’ SEO & Secretary Mr. Talekar & Mr. Medge President, explained the students about the functioning of their company. This company supplies over 200000 Tiffin boxes in Mumbai via cycles, local train and handcarts. They have 5000 employees in the job who are not educated over 8th grade but the still their performance has attained six sigma – (99.99999 perfection ) , a record which puts even the highest performing corporate to shame. The turnover of their company is 50 Crore. He explained how efficiently they manage their system that every consumer gets what he has ordered specifically. They also have their name in Guinness Book of World Records for excellent time management. He discussed with the students about how they manage all the resources and supply so many Tiffin’s within a short span of just 3 hours.
Finally, he said the reason behind their success is that they believe in the thought-
